 Re:      Homeland Security Advisory System

Thank you all for your patience and input as we have developed the Homeland Security Advisory System.  Gov. Ridge will officially announce the system at 11:00 AM today, at Constitution Hall in Washington, DC.  This system is the culmination of our collective efforts to devise a common system of threat alert; one in which state and local officials and the private sector may look to as a model for building your own systems.

The attached information provides you the specifics of the system.  We cannot mandate that you accept this system; however, it is the system that the federal government will adopt, today.  We hope that you will consider a compatible system for your state, and we would appreciate any public statements that you or your governor would be willing to make on behalf of the system.

The Department of Justice will be accepting comments about the system for the next 45 days.  We would appreciate your input by forwarding comments you may have to the Department of Justice.

ADDRESSES: Written comments may be sent to:  Director, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Homeland Security Advisory System, Room 7222, 935 Pennsylvania Avenue, N.W. Washington, D.C.  20535.   Comments may also be submitted electronically to:  HSAScomments@fbi.gov

FOR FURTHER INFORMATION CONTACT:    John Collingwood, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Office of Public and Congressional Affairs at (202) 324-3691.

As always, please feel free to contact us with any questions about this topic or any homeland security-related item.  I may be reached at 202-456-2096 or 202-494-9952.

Thank you, again, for your help in crafting this system.  Thank you, in advance, for accepting it and applying it
